Utah race day

One word describes the challenge of today's marathon:  altitude

It was a great course, picturesque with mountains and countryside.  A bit hilly but not too bad.  And the weather was cool and sunny.  A great race.

But, I failed to anticipate the change in altitude which certainly presented a challenge in breathing.  In the end, I finished in 1:49.

This concludes half marathon/state #31.  Up next is Fargo, North Dakota.
More pics up later today.

Utah day 1

A nice first day in Salt Lake.  After breakfast at Niche I went to the Energy Solutions Arena to pick up my packet.

From there I took a drive over to the Natural History Museum of Utah.  I was told there was some great views from their Sky Terrace and it's known for its architecture.  It was very nice.

Afterwards I started carbing up with a nice calzone at Nuch's Pizzeria.  Tomorrow after the marathon I'll be paying a visit to Red Butte Garden and the LDS Conference Center.  More pics to come.

Utah arrival

I finally arrived in Salt Lake City after a pretty long day of travel.  But, the weather was gorgeous today so after I settled into my hotel room I headed out for a walk.  The usual first day arrival routine.  That routine being I have no routine.  I just walk to see what I see.  More sites to see over the next two days.

Not a bad view from my hotel room

“Eagle Gate” spans State St. as it begins its climb up to the State Capitol Building. The arches of the gate are considered frames for the backdrop of the city.
